Review of Off the Black (2006) by Merril L — 19 May 2008
Perfectly written and shot. I loved the story of a teenager with strained (or absent) parental relationships, finding a friend in an unlikely "father figure" who is at this point, hardly more than a barely functioning alcoholic and put the two together to find some sort of happy medium in their lives.
Nick Nolte's performance is one of the best I've seen. He plays the adorable trainwreck of an older man character perfectly.
