Review of Of Mice and Men (1992) by Maxx D — 28 Mar 2009
There is nothing I love more than having an experience like I had with Of Mice and Men, directed by and starring Gary Sinise. I stumbled upon this film on PBS. Roughly 15 minutes had already eclipsed, but I was instantly transfixed.
I had not even known of this movies existence, but I am overjoyed to have been so surprised by this amazing film. After it was over, I found the first 15 minutes on YouTube. The acting is flawless, and the classic material is executed with utmost reverence.
What makes this film brilliant is that it does not try to do too much. The film achieves what so many adaptations try and fail to do: capture consummately the essence of its source material. A perfect example of traditional storytelling at its finest, and a true hidden gem.
