Review of Of Mice and Men (1992) by Sarine S — 28 Jan 2010

Though not technically a "Great" film, I actually really like this film adaption Of Mice and Men.

The novel itself is one of my favorites, the movie actually follows the novel pretty faithfully. It tells story of two friends; George, a small, short temper person, but with a good heart, and Lenny, a big, slow, probable retarded, person with the personalities of a child. They travel together, they soon get jobs at a ranch. Together, they hope to raise enough money to buy their own property, and when that dream seems to become reality, problems happens.

Like the novel, the movie centers on the morals of loneliness and the American Dream. Though they travel a lot, George and Lenny are never alone, because they're always together, as long as they are together they're never alone. One of the character's wife is often feeling lonely, mainly because no one, including her husband, ever spends time with her. This led her to become very flirtatious at the other men at the ranch, so she could be notice. Also, throughout the movie (and novel) several characters often mention their dreams, but the story mostly focus on George and Lenny's dream of owning their own property. Both morals show that no one wants to be alone, and that everyone has a dream, and will do everything to do.

The performances are good, but my hat goes off for John Malkovich's role as Lenny. Admittedly its no Oscar winning performance, but he was able to do Lenny so good, he acted the way that I always thought Lenny would be. Everything about this movie is nice, the directing is good, the setting is good, the story is faithful to the novel, and it's just over all nice.

I remember that I started watching this movie in class at school once, but we never finished it. I was really liking the movie so decided to watch the whole movie again at my own time, an I'm glad I did. I really liked it, and thought it would be probable be the best adaption Of Mice and Men, ever. 4½/5.
