You got to watch this movie! This is one of the finest movies I have ever seen. I haven't read the book so I may not be able to give you that perspective but I am totally impressed by this movie. John Malkovich delivered a knockout performance. In fact all of the cast gave a splendid performance.
I can't think of a single flaw in the movie... And trust me, there are only a handful of such movies...
