Review of Of Gods and Men (2010) by Kenny M — 22 Mar 2011
Everything that the 'Christian' movie genre gets wrong with superficial cheesiness ("Fireproof," "Left Behind"), the French film "Of God & Men" gets spot on right.
This isn't a fluffy Joel Olsteen Christian movie for suburban America. Winner of the Grand Prix Award at last years Cannes Film Festival, this is one of the most inspiring and powerful portrayals of the Christian faith I have ever seen on screen.
Devout in their faith and works, Catholic monks at a missional monastery serve the North African community including their Muslims neighbors only to eventually be taken hostage by Islamic terrorists. Staying devoted to their mission, they hold steadfast to their calling to not leave serving the sick and sharing the gospel as their own lives become threatened.
If you love film or the Christian faith I strongly urged you: Go. See. This. Movie!
