Review of Of Gods and Men (2010) by Andres B — 07 Apr 2011
One of the best movies I've seen this year or this decade even. The movie literally stops and makes you watch the monks pray with such devotion, that you believe everything they're going through and why they decide to stay and risk their lives.
The film asks some of the most important questions any person should ask themselves, and that's why it works. Why are we here? What is my particular mission? How should I respond to it, especially when the stakes are high? How do you keep faith alive?
I think this is especially important today, where most people disregard faith and religion and confuse it with fanaticism and fundamentalism. They are NOT the same thing, and the fact that this movie celebrates this and makes that vital difference is great and quite brave. I'm so glad this film won the Grand Prix and Cannes.
Simply AMAZING and truly moving to the core.
