Review of Of Gods and Men (2010) by Mike G — 21 Apr 2011
I was surprisingly non plussed by this film. I went expecting to be moved and came out disappointed. While the acting was good, the film looked good and there were occasional moments that moved, the overall impression was of boredom.
While there can be very little sympathy, if any, for the fundamentalists who seemed to be at war with everyone and anyone, especially "their own people, and any sympathy for the security forces very soon disappeared, it was difficult to understand what compelled the monks to be driven towards their own martyrdom other than the fact that non of them seemed to have anywhere else to go.
I expect for those with a "faith" this will re-affirm their beliefs. For me, I enjoyed Swan Lake.....
