Review of Odd Thomas (2013) by Logan M — 23 Mar 2014
Have you ever read a text message or email from a friend that was missing letters or multiple worlds but you generally understood what they were trying to say?
That's what you get here.
A basic mashup of everything popular and similar in which a character sees dead people. But the story, linear as it may be, is fractured in the sense that it never does quite explain anything in detail. Or at all. The trailer peaked my curiosity. Ironically the full length film never explained anything more than the 90 second trailer. Or maybe it did and somewhere in the mediocrity of the dialogue I missed it. Ive always liked yelchin and Timlin is quite the looker. But unfortunately no amount of chippy banter could cover up the sinking ship that was the plot. It's something we've seen a million times and done half as well. Which is made all that more unfortunate because a what could've been heartfelt ending was stymied by having little attachment to the characters.
2 stars. Not anything terrible about it, but nothing to love. Shame.
