Review of Odd Girl Out (2005) by Samantha S — 21 Nov 2009
A lot of people say that of all the movies that shed light on how mean girls can be, this one is the most realistic. I would have to say that I completely disagree. Being a girl myself and having my fair share of cat fights, I know that girls can be absolutely dreadful.
.. but this movie is WAY over the top. The mean girls in this movie were not so much mean, but evil. They went through an absurd amount of trouble to make the main character's life a living hell, doing things normal girls simply just wouldn't do.
It was like one thing after the other, and everything was much too intricately planned out. Girls are not evil masterminds, they're just catty bitches. They wouldn't create .GIFS about how fat you are, they would just talk about you behind your back.
And I don't care how mean-spirited they can be, it almost never goes as far as portrayed in the movie. I was actually kind of offended at how stereotypical the characters were. Basically, you can make the school hallways as dimly lit as possible, but high school just really isn't that dark and hellish.
Don't take this movie too seriously.
