Review of Oculus (2014) by Bailey G — 05 Aug 2014
Not bad tale of supernatural horror hovers between conventional and moderately clever. Conventional: haunted mirror causes it's owners to go psycho. Ho hum. Moderately clever: the children of it's latest victims, now young adults, attempt to trap the mirror into revealing it's supernatural nature through cameras, etc, and then destroy it.
There'd be no movie if it were that simple. Some effective chills along the way, but director Mike Flanagan's script cuts between flashbacks and present so often, the effect goes from mind bending at it's best two thirds in, to distracting when nearing it's rather well telegraphed climax.
