Review of Oculus (2014) by Amanda C — 02 Sep 2014
There is some interesting stuff going on formally with Oculus, but in the end, it relies too much on cheap tricks and scares to be effective. The two adult leads do the film no favours, as both are dull and uninteresting.
The past sequence somewhat make up for this as both the kids are great and the parents manage to do quite a bit with no help from the script. Unfortunately the focus is on a post Doctor Who Karen Gillan attempting an American accent with varying success and Brenton Thwaits who is about as lively and interesting as a pet rock.
