Review of Oculus (2014) by Mirzel T — 15 Nov 2014
"MIRROR, MIRROR ON THE WALL".
- 'Oculus' is a 2013 psychological horror film that was directed by Mike Flanagan. The story is about a mirror that causes death and misfortune to its owners. I do like the idea of the film, but you have to be focused to really get the story, because a lot happens. I must say it wasn't the best horror film I've seen, but it had its moments. In the cast we see Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy), Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent), Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica, Riddick) and Rory Cochrane (Argo). "You see what it wants you to see).
After being released from a mental institution, 21 year-old Timothy Allen Russell (Thwaites) goes home to live with his sister Kaylie (Gillan) with who he experienced a childhood trauma. To go on with their lives, Kaylie was able to buy her families antique mirror at an auction. She believes that the mirror is responsible for the deaths of her mother Marie (Sackhoff) and father Alan (Cochrane). Only be reliving the past and destroying the cursed mirror will the Russells find peace... or not?
