Review of Oculus (2014) by Tristan M — 16 Nov 2014
I don't watch a lot of scary films, I'm simply not good with them, but I surprisingly actually enjoyed this one. But let's face it, it wasn't that great of a film. To start the acting and sqript was pretty poor most of the time, and the begining half hour of the film was pretty slow and boring.
However if you didn't watch this movie all the way through, or missd the begining than you would have no idea what is going on. The cinematography was very different than your average film, making for a pretty confusing movie almost all the way through.
However if it was done in a different way it simply wouldn't have worked out all too well. In one scene for example we would see the kids when they are older, then have the camera move across the room and we would see them when they were younger, all in the same shot.
This only works because it all happens in the same house. After the first 30 or so minutes the movie heats up, and gets to be pretty intense and have some good scares. It isn't the scariest movie out there, but it's scarier than the trailer makes it look.
The way the mirror makes them see things different than the way they are actually doing them and placing things in their heads thinking their seeing them is cool, and for a few days after you will be watching your back in mirrors.
Overall not a great but not that bad of a movie, while your watching it you will enjoy it after the first 30 minutes are over, but when you really think about it it has some signifigate downsides.
