Review of Oculus (2014) by Andrew M — 19 Jan 2015
I am by no means a fan of the horror genre. However, I do like a good suspense film, and if you're going for horror, then making it suspenseful is the way to go. This film fits the bill. It's hard to discuss without giving too much of the plot away, but suffice to say it's atmospheric, the sound design & score are fantastic, it doesn't overdo the blood (and what there is is more creepy than gory), and keeps you guessing right up until the finale.
The acting -- even from the kids, who are surprisingly good fits for their adult counterparts -- is very good. It might be a touch slow and confusing in places, but I think that's all part of the appeal.
