Review of Oculus (2014) by David D — 13 Aug 2015
This movie takes a little while to build, but it's worth sticking with it. The initial plot point is intriguing - an inanimate object haunts a family and is responsible for a series of terrible event.
..or is it? I like that this was the initial line explored in the film and it could have been super interesting had the director better maintained that uncertainty. Pacing picks up and the weaving of the past with the present is very, very well done.
Scene transitions are clever and there's adequate creep factor. The major flaw is that there really isn't any context for why these crazy events are happening - the back story is practically non-existent.
If you are a logical person this movie will frustrate you. If though you can allow yourself to suspend your disbelief, this movie may have enough creep factor to keep you invested.
