Review of Octopussy (1983) by William B — 02 Feb 2009
Ultimately, probably the most forgettable of the Roger Moore Bond movies. Not as ridiculous as MOONRAKER or A VIEW TO A KILL, not as well-plotted as THE SPY WHO LOVED ME or FOR YOUR EYES ONLY. I will say that Octopussy herself is a pretty bad-ass Bond girl, and Louis Jourdan is-- as expected-- a compelling scenery-chewer who revels in his villainy.
And the opening sequence is quite intense. Still, it's over two hours long, and feels kinda bloated. And I'd rather see Bond in a casino or some evildoer's subterranean lair than in a damn circus.
