Review of Octopussy (1983) by Michael F — 02 Apr 2009
This has more going for it than the mess that followed it, although the song is okay but slides by , and you forget about it. Once the action and plot get under way and for once the plot is quite great. The horse's backside and all the other little set pieces, its all camp and fun, but with a degree of menace and the better of the 80's Bond's for it. Roger feels like he's having fun with the role, and Maud Adams is great as Octopussy. Berkoff mugs something rotten as General Olav, but hell you can get away with it in a Bond. It's well directed and seems to be saying that its not afraid to go big, as opposed to the stripped down it really could happen For your eyes only.
Q has a lot more to do in it too, which is always good. It is big and it is clever.
