Review of Octopussy (1983) by Del T — 03 May 2010
Enjoyable if unremarkable James Bond adventure. The delights are few but strong enough to be enshrined in the Bond canon. The best is the backgammon game against Louis Jourdan. I laughed as Bond brings out the Faberge egg as collateral for his bet.
Also loved the the yo yo saw blade fight sequence, his duels with the knife wielding twins, and of course the Astro Jet opening. One of the few Bond films that mention and show other OO agents. In this case 009.
Jourdan makes a formidable villain. Maud Adams is just okay as the title character. She was better and more sympathetic in Man With the Golden Gun. More enjoyable is Bond's relationship with her second in command, Kristina Wayborn.
Drawbacks, , the Tarzan yell during India hunt, and Bond dressing up as a clown. These are unnecessary and are only included to give the audience a cheap laugh, but these overall detract from the movie and the character.
