Review of Octopussy (1983) by Tyler F — 20 Mar 2013
In many ways, this is the most disappointing of the Moore Bond films. It follows Moore's best outing as Bond in "For Your Eyes Only", and the first 20 minutes are excellent. The opening action sequence is well-staged and uses humour effectively.
The film goes rapidly downhill from there. The plot is packed full of too many elements and the characters are so thin that it soon becomes difficult to figure out why characters are doing what they do (except of course to simply drive the plot forward).
The last 45 minutes of the movie are essentially one long, really bland chase sequence that becomes really painful to sit through. This film is also the absolute nadir of Moore's smarmy goofball portrayal of Bond.
Some of the comic moments in this film are unforgivably stupid.
