Review of October Sky (1999) by Brad E — 30 Apr 2011
Reminded me of a made for tv movie b/c of its predictability. It was def schmaltzy at parts like that nerdy kid, but funny too. I liked the music and it's a good family movie. This is based on a true story of a small town hero.
This film chronicles a teenager on a journey to giving the town hope, even though it often puts him at odds with his dad. The life of a coal miner def seems suffocating in more ways than one in this film and that part was interesting to see detailed.
There was good acting all around (especially the dad) and it was a feel good film. Jake Gyllenhaal plays the dreamer type once again, but his eyes are made for those roles.
