Review of October Baby (2011) by Bruce-Janice T — 16 Mar 2012
It's fair to say that I've seen coutless films in my 49 years but I've never seen a picture quite like this one. Brothers Andrew and Jon Erwin tell a compelling story of rejection, loss, redemption and forgiveness in the beautifully filmed October Baby. Watching this well cast story unfold was quite like peeling an onion back, layer by layer, as actors John Schneider, Jasmine Guy, Jason Burkey and newcomer Rachel Hendrix bring their best in series of powerful messages. Musician and American Idol Finalist Chris Sligh also brings the audience bits of well timed and much needed comic relief throughout the movie.
I heard a recent interview with the Erwin brothers, who said that Hollywood wouldn't touch the movie because of the heavy subject matter, so they put their own money into bringing the story to the big screen. The Erwins also described their target audience as teen girls, but having seen the film twice now and being a father of a son and several daughters my own, ranging in ages from 17 to 23, I'd recommend this for everyone 12 and over. Do yourself a favor and go see October Baby. Be sure to buy enough popcorn to last you through the ending credits.
