Review of October Baby (2011) by Kim S — 16 Apr 2012
I've read a lot of the reviews and I disagree. I think the main plot is the relationship between Hannah and her father, Jacob. Showing us the raw feelings of parents having to deal with adoption and telling their adopted children of their birth.
Jacob, the dad, just wanted to protect Hannah but couldn't keep the truth from her. And shouldn't have, but could never find the right time to tell her of her horrific birth. Something we would all struggle with if having to make that choice.
Hannah had a journey of self-discovery, she left home to find herself and realized she was who she was because of her adopted dad and mom, not in spite of them! I did not think I would be as moved as much as I was by the story.
It was beautifully shot, wonderfully acted, but a little slow in places but overall a deeply touching story between a daughter and father. I will buy it on DVD. It will be one of my favorite films! Again, thanks to Sherwood for staying true to their beliefs.
It's refreshing to see a story with morals and conviction. Thank you. 4 stars.
