Review of Ocean's Eight (2018) by Omar L — 19 Jun 2018
Sandra Bullock is a national treasure. Her charismatic humorous presence is 100% the female counterpart to George Clooney. Getting to watch her with all the other talented actresses in this caper is the main draw. I laughed when I watched the movie, I was engaged, and I enjoyed myself. And then the movie ended, and thinking about it a few hours later, I had to question myself: was I the one just conned?
Part of the charm of a heist film is how the criminal team manages to deal with unforeseen challenges when things *don't* go according to plan. In this movie, there are so few challenges that the memory of the experience leaves one feeling empty. Add to that the lack of character development in any of the cast. We know less about these 8 women's personalities and histories than we did with the 11 men in the George Clooney remake of Ocean's 11. These talented performers deserved a better script, and the audience deserved a better movie.
