Review of Ocean's Eight (2018) by Nathanael G — 01 Jul 2018
A feminist reboot...
Firstly let me get something straight, I don't have a problem with female lead roles at all, there's been some cracking films with a strong female lead. However, when you reboot a film series using only female actors, you've got to ask the question why?
Very slow and boring to begin with, no real chemistry between the actors.
The plot didn't really make sense either, the original oceans films (especially 11) had a good reason for stealing, a good motive, the money was always owned by greedy billionaires who weren't nice people.
But in this film, they where robbing a museum for no good reason other than "because I'm good at it".
All the male actors where deliberately made to look stupid, as is the feminist way.
A couple of original characters make an appearance, but nothing more than cameos.
And James cordon showing up was the icing on the cake, terrible acting, he just looks out of place in the movie.
It picks up at the end, but that's mainly down to the "amazing Yan "cameo.
To summarise:
A lazy attempt to recreate a brilliant film series with all female character, that fails to impress.
