Review of Ocean's Eight (2018) by Davrosdaleks1 — 06 Jul 2018

Ocean's Eight does an admirable job of both duplicating the formula of the original Ocean's Thirteen while doing its own thing. I've heard complaints from other online critics that the thieves in this don't have a real antagonist or major obstacles to their plan. I concede that but I feel that they're expecting this too much to be like Thirteen. Eight has more of a journey-than-destination vibe to it. It's funnier than the previous trilogy. It also feels like there is more emphasis on the characters, each with a distinctive personality and excellently acted by the all-star cast. Visually, the film lacks the dynamism of the previous trilogy's editing and camera work. Not to say the film is badly directed. The setting of the Met Gala is one of the film's highlights. The outfits and decorations for the event are basically visual porn and a fitting equivalent to the glamorous casino setting.

Personally, I found Eight to be entertaining, even if it isn't as ambitious as Thirteen.
