Review of Obvious Child (2014) by Tyler R — 17 Oct 2014
Obvious Child stars Jenny Slate as Donna she's a stand up comedian who in the course of a day and a half gets dumped by her boyfriend and she finds out that's she's going to lose her job at a bookstore.
So she basically has a complete meltdown during one of her sets and she meets this mild mannered guy named Max and they end up getting drunk and having a one night stand and then a few weeks go by and she finds out she's pregnant and she then decides to have an abortion.
The subject of abortion in this film is treated as a serious conversation topic and they actually discuss it and that makes this romantic comedy a little poignant. But that doesn't mean this movie isn't really funny.
I was laughing a lot but there are some very sweet and tender moments and Jenny Slate is really good in this. I really like this film it's a really sweet romantic comedy that also tackles a very serious subject and navigates it really well.
