Review of Obvious Child (2014) by Norm D — 31 Aug 2017
Not usually my fare: Stand-up on women's panties, vagina verities & discharges, big bushes, jewesses, "pee-farts" as a romantic moment, aborta clinic actualities, sore breasts, feministas ... Joan Rivers' live show stuff. But Jenny Slate may win an Oscar in the future. She's been good in everything seen, including - maybe especially - here. Gillian's (writer, director) glibness about abortion is awkward & almost strange tho' Jenny handles it as well as anyone who (in theory) sees it as an amoral decision. In Gillian's 20-min short of this project (also with Jenny, on the DVD) the other aborters have a poignantly revealing look about them, less so in the feature. This is a well-made but peculiar "film." The straw/tobacco color grading (color tint of the scenes) was not a great post-production decision.
Now see Jenny in "Gifted." | - Norm de Guerre.
