Obvious Child is a rom-com...but it's a rom-com that destroys precedent in order to be viciously authentic and hilariously uncomfortable. It proves that a movie can be sweet while not being anywhere near saccharine.
With a knockout performance by Slate, it approaches the hot-button issue of abortion with grace, recognizing its reality without judgment or political support, all while being consistently lol funny. A Frances Ha meets In a World.
.. success story, and one of the best of 2014.
