It's movies like Obvious Child that move a genre to something completely different. In this film the love story is still there but it's twist is that the main character is pregnant and wants an abortion.

That's really original and a great premise! Does the premise work? Yes! Does it touch the heart? Yes! Is it amazing? No. There's no big character development from Donna whatsoever. She at first acts like a crude comedian that acts kind of kiddish and has a lot of fun.

She becomes more adult once she gets pregnant but still acts goofy and hardly learns anything from her experience. It's hard to enjoy a movie when the character doesn't learn anything and doesn't have a huge payoff.

I did really like the performances in this film, Max and Donna were both really good relatable characters. The reason why this movie is so great is because of the relatable mess of the situation. It's really interesting and a nice story but again no big payoff.

I just don't get why Max stayed with Donna in the end. It's a very nice thing to do but she was just the same character and he seemed to have wanted that kid and he still stayed with her!! That's determination to some and stupid to others who got pulled into this movie with their girlfriends.

I'm a guy and I ended up liking the characters and the story. Obvious Child was a sweet fun movie that could've used some more character development but I really enjoyed the twist on a romantic comedy.

B+.
