Review of Obsession (1949) by Sean B — 30 Jul 2007
Happened to catch this film by chance and thought it was brilliant. The plot is set around a psychologist who discovers that his wife is having an affair with an American socialite. He then proceeds to kidnap the man and the consequent exchanges the kidnapper and the victim have form the bulk of the film.
The chemistry between these two male leads is excellent with the victim fighting to get his date of death and Dr. Riordan endlessly withholding it to get the ultimate revenge. There are significant tones of film noir and the femme fatale ofcourse gets the last laugh.
There's also a superb performance from Naunton Wayne as Superintendant Finsbury.
