Review of Observe and Report (2009) by Faith S — 21 May 2012
Perverted, deluded, and dark, and all the while pretty shocking and original. Seth Rogen breaks out of his groove as the laid-back but sharp doofus and moves into new territory with an unusual and fascinating role: the outrageous, pitiful, and violent dumbass.
The music here is bold and tightens up the story at some crucial moments, so the minor notes are working too. Maybe as a whole the movie is too sad and painful for its own good, but it's brave and hilarious, and I can't say it isn't worthwhile.
