Review of Oblivion (2013) by Timo E — 07 Apr 2016
Missed by some reviews, the central theme of this thoughtful movie seems to me to be about what it is to be human. The Tom Cruise character fighting to redeem his humanity; love struggling for survival through cloning, delta sleep, the passing of time; exploration of the meaning of 'home'.
Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman were reliable as ever but the most nuanced performance was by Andrea Riseborough who played a fine line between humanity and a lack of humanity, thought provoking about both Vika's true character and the nature of Vika's relationship with Jack Harper (Cruise) until all is revealed.
I enjoyed this movie unreservedly and cannot understand so many negative reviews.
