Review of Oblivion (2013) by Valerie P — 28 Aug 2014
For me, this sci-fi presents a complete package of a curious future concept and absorbing plot-line, tied together neatly in an aesthetically pleasing bow. I was not in the least disappointed with the story or the acting; and the cinematography is above par.
Tom Cruise stars as Jack Harper, a service repairman for the droids that sweep the barren landscape of our decimated Earth. Together with his teammate and partner, Vika, he remains on Earth with the alien scavengers responsible for the planet's destruction. Everyone else has gone off to join a colony on Mars and begin life anew. At least that's the story as Jack knows it...
There are plot-twists aplenty to keep the viewer attuned. The only point of contention I had was with the soundtrack; a jarringly distracting barrage of eighties-like synth. If you can tolerate the incongruent musical interludes, however, the film is worth watching for Morgan Freeman's part alone.
