Review of Oblivion (2013) by Adrian A — 18 Feb 2015
This film was overly excited to.. be. It wanted so hard to be a big summer blockbuster, with sexy women, sweet tech, super explosions and of course, Tom Cruise. But this film felt more like a 13 year old who snuck a peek at dad's nudy magazines, and now thinks himself a man.
Yes, the special effects were good. Yes, Tom Cruise can still carry an entire movie on his shoulders. And yes, Morgan Freeman can really rock those glasses, but this film felt less than the sum of its parts.
Perhaps the problem was the script. With not a line of witty dialogue, nothing broke through the mold of what we expected to hear from the characters. Perhaps the soundtrack? I challange you to hum to me the main theme of the film. Perhaps it was the fact that Jamie Lannister was in the film for seemingly no apparent reason. Or just maybe, it was because lets face it, Moon did it better. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go watch Moon.
This is not a bad film. Far from it, but for some reason, it was mind bogglingly forgettable.
