Review of O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) by Peter N — 05 Aug 2012
The Coen brothers throw their trademark quirkiness and unconventional storytelling methods into a film that comes off as much less mature and slightly more family friendly than anything else they've done.
The plot, loosely based on Homer's The Odyssey, keeps things rolling and the whole thing is kept mercifully short. With its catchy songs and larger-than-life characters, I can see why people like it, but it's just not my kind of film.
Nothing is taken seriously enough, making it hard to relate to what is going on, and it feels like the Coen brothers only made it due to the fact that they had nothing better to do at the time. Still, it's a well-written and entertaining movie.
