Review of O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) by Tj G — 24 Sep 2013
One of the best movies of all time. The Coen Brothers use inhumanly insightful casting and a flowing, classical script (it is Homer, after all) to send home every theme in gripping, roaring perfection.
Every costume and song is perfect, every characterization is both current and epic. This may not be the favorite of many folks out there, but I truly feel that everyone would benefit to watch this movie again with the perspectives of noticing the links to Homer and seeing the application of ancient ideas to our worlds today.
There has been no script more clever in my movie watching existence, nor one more deftly constructed. My one and only critique of the movie is that if you miss the two quick early references to the dam breaking, much of the point of the last scene is entirely missed.
Other than that this is one of only about ten movies I give all five stars out of five. I consider it one of the two best movies ever made.
