O Brother, Where Art Thou is another great film from the Coens that I watched in English class this year (yep, I'm a teen critic) after reading Homer's classic The Odyssey, you can see the similarities. Kind of.

The film, set in the Great Depression era of the '30s, follows a group of friends who escape from jail and try to get back to their hometown so the main character, Ulysses McGill, can get back to his family. Along the way, they meet some others inspired by monsters and creatures from The Odyssey.

Excellent movie. I wouldn't say it captured The Odyssey perfectly but it was an interesting and fun movie and it definitely captured the 30s vibe, especially musically, well. Another success for the Coens.
