Review of O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) by Charley D — 28 Feb 2012
Part Sturges; Part Capra; All Coen.
The Coen Brothers owe as much to the Wizard of Oz as they do to the source material (Homer's Ulysses), right down to the parallels between Everett's prayer and Dorothy's "There's no place like home." (Not to mention the klansman's march.).
Movie defines Clooney as a classic leading man, putting him in the same category as Clark Gable in It Happened One Night, yet defies him to find another role of equal proportion.
It is the best slice of Americana since the other great Coen opus Raising Arizona.
You can't say enough great things about this movie on sit, watch and wonder.

"And stay out of the Woolworths!".
