Review of O (2001) by Leah E — 14 Aug 2013
The story is about Odin James/Othello played by Mekhi Phifer who is the star basketball player of their school team "Hawks". Because of this, Odin gets the attention of the coach Duke Goulding played by Martin Sheen making the coach's son Hugo/Iago played by Josh Hartnett jealous and planning to destroy Odin.
He makes Odin believe that Desi Brable/Desdemona played by Julie Stiles is an adulteress and she is with Michael Cassio played by Andrew Keegan. This causes the anger to rise in Odin about Desi and Michael not knowing Hugo was behind this.
Until Desi is killed within Odin's hands and he kills himself, Hugo is arrested in the end. So yeah, there are a lot of familiar characters that make it onto the story this time with a modern twist to it.
This modern adaptation of Othello known as O for short is told perfectly. No matter what the twist, it does not stray away from its original source material and delivers the basics with greatness. I would also like to mention that I have mentioned several times that I'm a big fan of Josh Hartnett and now, he should make a serious comeback as I haven't seen him in a single recent movie since 30 Days Of Night.
O (2001) gets a 8.5/10.
