Review of Nowhere Boy (2009) by Blind P — 14 Oct 2010
An example of melodrama that works because it doesn't play out with a heavy handed drip that drags down many Hollywood features of its type.
Featuring such an iconic figure as John Lennon, many people will being in preconception of his history and how it should play, but as I am iconoclastic I have no inkling of his early life and as such I judge it as a dramatic piece in its own right. I cannot compare it to "the facts" and have no idea how "valid" it is.
In fact, it took until they called him "John Lennon" for me to even realize that's what it was about. I love watching films in this fashion, having no clue at all what it is. It's is tough to do in the world of big budget advertising and splashy trailers, but "smaller films" such as this can fly under that radar.
