Review of Nowhere Boy (2009) by Rick A — 16 Oct 2010
Accurate, compelling, dark film about Lennon's early years, from age 15 to a couple of years later when the teenage Quarrymen-turn-Beatles head off to Hamburg to prepare for fame. It's interesting, because we all know how his life turns out, but not everyone knows how it began.
The performances and script are gritty and moody, and the casting is excellent. It's not a romp, but it was a fascinating peek into how his early years affected his evolution into the John Lennon the world knew.
Think twice about bringing the kids - very-occasionally it's just a tad graphic.
