Review of Nowhere Boy (2009) by Gary C — 20 Oct 2010
I'll say it up front. I'm a Beatles fanatic...always have been. I know way too much about them. I've been to Liverpool...Hamburg...London. Been to the clubs, seen the sights, read the books and of course lived the music.
This brings (brought) me to Nowhere Boy. All in all this was a disappointing experience. Too melodramatic. Too long. Too romanticized. Kristin Scott Thomas was, as usual, excellent but I walked out of this feeling let down.
It seems that everything had a tragic haze imbuing the story. Covering the year before Lennon left for Hamburg it hits all the points...meeting McCartney and Harrison, the death of Julia and George. Somehow I wanted it grittier, realer.
...and shorter. For real Beatle fans only.
