Review of Nowhere Boy (2009) by Theo K — 16 Nov 2010
This is what I would call a solid movie. It did nothing to blow me away, but it did nothing to put me off either. Fans of Lennon and fans of Aaron Johnson should see this movie.
Pros: The acting is top notch. Everyone holds up and I was totally lost in the performances of the actors. Fans of the Beatles will be surprised by certain cameos and the beginning of the movie uses a clever opening to keep fans on tender hooks. The story is solid and dramatic, using good plot twists and portraying Lennon's teenage angst well.
Cons: The plot is rather boring. I understand that this is a drama, and that action doesn't fit well in there, but make no mistake, there is no action beyond angry running and yelling.
Overall: This movie is very very good. Anyone who wants to see interesting insights into the life of one of the greatest musicians ever should see this movie. It is well worth it.
