Review of Nowhere Boy (2009) by Cj Z — 18 Jul 2011
An honest coming-of-age film for teenagers, this will please both non-fans of the Fab Four and hardcore ones alike. A gripping lead performance by Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass), I was dissapointed to see he had not been chosen as the new Spider-Man, because this movie had won him my full trust for his next few movies.
The rest are most likely a cast of unknowns in the States, but they support and do their job all right. The costumes and sets are beautifully detailed, and the perspective of keeping Lennon on screen almost at all times feels like a Harry Potter novel: up close, personal, and emotionally complex.
A hormone-crazed tennager, John Lennon was almost your typical kid of the old times. The whole film represents his turning point in life, and how he was able to find truth and learn guitar from his mother and slowly build The Beatles.
An excellent cast and a great storyline make this a must-see for die-heard Beatles and casual movie-goers together.
