Review of Nowhere Boy (2009) by Adam C — 15 Aug 2011
I saw a preview for this and immediately picked it up, excited by the promise of a biopic on the early life of John Lennon. Maybe it was just me, but I couldn't tune into it whatsoever. Lennon's character, though I wouldn't know the difference anyway, didn't seem like I'd imagined he would be whatsoever.
The actor that played him, though he was talented, didn't look anything like him. And the film's content, though it wasn't advertised differently, had little to nothing to do with the music that the Beatles played.
The most interesting parts were when John met Paul and George (poor Ringo didn't make it into this one), and despite being historically accurate the whole relatonship between John and his mother was just plain hard to sit through.
Too many shots of John walking with a cigarette in his mouth, not enough inspiring dialogue.
