Review of Nowhere Boy (2009) by Joshua L — 04 Feb 2012
Touching, moving, and inspiring, "Nowhere Boy" represents the jubilantly fitting story of John Lennon's troubled childhood. Sam-Taylor Wood leads the film in the right direction with a highly emotional approach.
She successfully brings to life a memoir by Julia Baird. Aaron Johnson delivers a fine performance as Lennon. He may not look like him, but Johnson still manages to capture the essence of a rebellious and confused boy.
The rest of the cast including Kristin Scott Thomas, Anne-Marie Duff, and Thomas Sangster are excellent in their well rounded roles. This film is however very short, covers only Lennon's childhood, and suffers from being slightly inaccurate.
Nonetheless, it is worth watching for its emotional insight and great performances.
