Overall, I thought the movie was inherently retarded, but I was impressed with the way it would jump from "deliberately stupid" (most of Duvall's scenes) to "a genuinely serious moment" (when the guy talks to his junkie boyfriend), to "psychotically intense" (date rape scene) and back to "deliberately stupid".
