Review of Now You See Me (2013) by Jonny C — 22 Aug 2015
"Now You See Me" in one word can simply be described. Disappointing.
For once, the opportunity of a film with a unique cinematic concept came around and potentially could have been extremely impressive. However due the ridiculous excuse of a story, the initial concept of a 'magic' based film was ruined, leaving easily one of the biggest plot twists in cinematic history, since Darth Vader was Luke's father! The idea of a cat and mouse based adventure between "The Four Horsemen" and the "FBI" was soiled, resulting in a messy Hollywood-esk car chase, and action sequence which lost the initial feel of the film which was created so well in the first half. And lets not even talk about the unnecessary 'love' story which made me cringe in my seat.
It's simply disappointing to know that this film had the chance to be so much better, and it really was in the beginning, however it's due to the extensive attack of both sense, and realism within the plot which looses all respect, resulting in a quite frankly laughable cinematic experience. Simply the only thing keeping this mess together was the fantastic performances by all the cast, atleast giving someone a reason to watch.
