Review of Now You See Me 2 (2016) by Kruunch A — 23 Jun 2016
Have you ever wondered what the bastard child of Ocean's Eleven and Mission Impossible would look like? Well wonder no more.
Now You See Me 2 fails for every reason the original succeeded. While both have glaring plot holes and verisimilitude issues, the original covered them up with witty dialogue, smooth action and some fairly fun reveals. The sequel on the other hand uses over the top and implausible action sequences, a romantic interest that constantly underscores the point that they couldn't get Isla Fisher to come back with the star who has the fewest lines in the movie (Dave Franco), and magic trick sequences that absolutely serve no purpose.
And then the final reveal that the protagonist (Mark Ruffalo) is a self absorbed and psychotically bent sociopath with daddy issues. Which we knew from the ending of the first movie.
What makes me really nerd rage about this movie is the utter waste of a great cast and the fact that Mark Ruffalo should have been hard at work on a more deserving project ... like a Massengill Douche commercial.
Movies like Now You Can See Me 2 are the moral justification for pirating movies. Sadly, I paid for this one.
