Review of Now You See Me 2 (2016) by James R — 15 Jan 2017
If you enjoyed the first movie Now You See Me (2013) you'll more than likely find some enjoyment in this one. Taking place 18 months after the events of the first film. The Four Horsemen return...minus Henley (Isla Fisher) who's written out of the film.
Anyways the Horsemen: Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), McKinney (Woody Harrelson), Jack (Dave Franco), and the newest member Lula (Lizzy Caplan) unite when a tech genius named Walter Mabry (Daniel Radcliffe) forces them to steal a data chip that can have him control a ton of things in the world.
Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo) returns from the first film and must trust Thaddeus Bradley (Morgan Freeman) to assist him with uncovering the truth. Like I said the film isn't bad. I enjoyed the first one, but this one in itself has a few missed shots.
The films first 40 minutes are literally the set up with very little action. The heist isn't that great and is over before you know it. Then for casting Radcliffe is interesting, but never gets to spread his wings.
It literally could have been any British bad guy and the same kind of feeling would had been conveyed. Lizzy Caplan as the newest member Lula is kinda just there. She's actually kind of annoying and just says some really random shit.
Overall, it still has a cool twist and I recommend if you enjoyed the first film to give this one just a rent!
